Madur Kathi craft is GI (Geographic Index) tagged to West Bengal based on its origin.

 

Madur mat-making is a long-standing tradition, centred on the Medinipur district. The mats are woven by predominantly by women weavers. This cottage industry contributes significantly to village household income.

 

The strips of woven mat are joined together by stitching with cotton fabric, which forms the folds and gives the particular color to the various products. The product is natural, eco-friendly, bio-degrable,

handmade, fair trade products.
